If you go for light and fruity, try a Beaujolais (but not nouveau)
Whether the light and fruity style is your typical M.O. or you like to have it only when sipping on your porch during a warm summer night, I’d offer you up a Beaujolais to try—- though maybe not the type of Beaujolais that first comes to mind. It’s not the bulk-made Beaujolais nouveau that comes out during Thanksgiving and tastes like Welch’s grape juice but something much more complex, fruit forward, and refreshing— what I’m referring to is any one of the Beaujolais that comes from the 10 quality villages (known as “cru”) in the region.
A Few things to know: Beaujolais is made from the gamay grape. The Beaujolais region is technically part of Burgundy but the Burgundians would rather not be associated with its southern neighbors.
Tasting profile: fresh red fruits (strawberries, raspberries, cherries), white blossoms with moderate acidity
Price for a decent bottle: $25 -$30
Lookout for these Regions: Moulin a vent (most concentrated of the beaujolais), Fleurie (light and floral), Morgan (somewhere in between)
Producers to try: Chateau du Moulin a Vent, Clos de la Roilette
