If you like Cabernet Sauvignon, try Aglianico!

You are that person that loves cabernet for its muscle, its oomph, and the full body mouthfeel. And you love it as the companion to your favorite cut of steak. Well, I’m here to introduce you to one of the wine community’s best kept secret that can likely go toe-to-toe to most of your fave cabs on all of the above factors.

A Few things to know: The Aglianico grape (pronounced “alli-yan-nico”) is found almost exclusively in southern Italy (primarily in the Campania and Basilicata region). The grape was first bought to southern Italy by the Greeks over 3,000 years ago. Talk about being a grape OG! Like cabernet, Aglianico likes warm and moderate climate conditions. In the glass, Aglianico wine is bold, contains high acidity, and has firm tannins that soften with age. Because of its structure, it’s also the perfect partner in crime to a perfectly medium rare steak, a burger, or pork ribs.

Tasting profile: black cherry, black currants, spiced plum, leather, chocolate,

Price for a decent bottle: $30 -$40
